Did you know that the single strongest indicator of a child's future reading ability and success in school is surprisingly simple: exposure to books. Did you also know that despite this fact, the majority of children in low-income families in America have no age-appropriate books in their homes? Which means local libraries, particularly in low income areas, play a vital role in childhood literacy.
JLOSH is committed to early childhood literacy and as such the East Orange Public Library Committee is launching a book drive to add much-needed books to their shelves. The library has created a "Wish List" to enhance their Children and Teen book collections. In addition, some books will also be given to children who participate in story-times and other activities sponsored by the League. For many recipients - be it teenagers or toddlers - these books may be the first books they own.
Please join us by sponsoring as many books as you can, to help children in low-income communities such as East Orange!
How can you help?
A. Sponsor a book(s) today by clicking either of these Wish List links:
B. CLEAN HOUSE!
JLOSH will be accepting used books now through April 1st, also to support the East Orange Public Library Book Sale. If you are interested books can be dropped at Coldwell Banker locations on Millburn Ave in Short Hills and Maplewood Avenue in Maplewood. Or at drop boxes located at the League Building.
