After collecting
more than $3000 worth of gifts from its members, the Junior League of the
Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH) assisted FAMILYConnections, a community-based counselling and
family service agency located in Orange, in preparing for its annual ‘Home for the Holidays’ party.
JLOSH members purchased gifts for over 85 children attending the
party. In addition, 18 JLOSH
volunteers wrapped the gifts and helped FAMILYConnections decorate for the
party.
FAMILYConnections hosts the annual party for children and parents who
have been reunited after a separation during which the children were placed in
foster care. Due to state budget
cuts, FAMILYConnections lost its funding for the party this year and was in
desperate need of assistance.
JLOSH responded to
the needs of FAMILYConnections with enthusiasm. The party, which was held on December 16 at Reunity House in
East Orange, was a tremendous success and was attended by reunited families, program staff,
board members, and local politicians. After dinner and entertainment, FAMILYConnections
recognized each reunited family and distributed the gifts that had been
purchased by JLOSH members to the delighted children.
JLOSH was proud to
help an organization that provides assistance to some of the most vulnerable families
in our community. JLOSH president
Laura Overdeck added: “It was very
moving to see the children served by FAMILYConnections together with their birth
families experiencing the joy of the holidays. JLOSH was thrilled to work with FAMILYConnections and
contribute to its important mission.
JLOSH is committed to helping women and children in the community, and
our longstanding relationship with FAMILYConnections provides us with a
wonderful opportunity to help fulfill that goal.”
Every year, JLOSH members work together to
tackle critical needs of women and children in our area. JLOSH provides service to the
communities of Orange, East Orange, South Orange, West Orange, Maplewood, Springfield,
Millburn, Short Hills, and Livingston.
Founded in 1913, JLOSH reaches out to women of all races, religions, and
national origins. Its purpose is
purely educational and charitable.
