Everyone is a Winner at Junior League's Casino Fundraiser (02/2010)

The Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH), with support from area sponsors, is planning for its biggest annual fundraiser next month (March) – Chips for Charity.

Over 300 guests are expected at the glittering event at Maplewood Country Club on Friday, March 12, 2010. The casino-themed evening of fun will include gaming tables, music, delicious food, a fabulous silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds from the event will aid under-served women and children in the community.

The League is grateful for the generous support of Presenting Sponsor, Coldwell Banker, and Supporting Sponsor, Creative Wallcoverings & Interiors, as well as the many contributions from Patrons and Friends of the League, said JLOSH President, Elizabeth Duncan Pederson.

"They have stepped up and shown their support for the community, and now we're inviting other businesses and individuals to join them in this excellent cause," she said. "This is an event where everyone is a winner."

"Sponsorship aside, people can contribute to this wonderful event by donating auction items, placing advertisements in the event program and, of course, buying tickets to the event."

All proceeds from the event will go directly to JLOSH's charitable programs, which support women and children in East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Orange, Short Hills, Springfield, South Orange and West Orange.

JLOSH projects return around $80,000 annually through grants and services to the community and gives more than 7,000 volunteer hours a year.

Recently, JLOSH presented a $40,000 grant to the East Orange Public Library to renovate its Junior Room as part of an ongoing program to promote early literacy.  In addition, the League has been working with local elementary schools in Millburn and Maplewood and South Orange to teach children about the values and rewards of volunteering with its award-winning book, The Littlest Volunteers.

Founded in 1913, the Oranges and Short Hills chapter is one of the oldest Junior Leagues in the US and its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. It is committed to voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving our communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
