Home for the Holidays with Family Connections (12/2011)
On December 15th, JLOSH volunteers helped bring holiday cheer to recently reunited families at FAMILYConnections during their annual “Home for the Holidays” party. We collected $1500 worth of gifts from our members and over $300 from our Sustainers that went towards food baskets for every family. In addition, 30 volunteers wrapped gifts and packed food baskets, decorated the space with decorations donated by JLOSH, and volunteered at the event. In total, JLOSH donated close to $2500.
Christine's Soup Kitchen (10/2011)
More than 30 JLOSH volunteers worked to prepare and serve a delicious meal at Christine's Soup Kitchen at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in West Orange on October 28th and 29th. For the close to 75 people that braved the first snow of the season to attend, the warm meal was especially appreciated.
Thanksgiving Baskets at the Salvation Army (11/2011)
On November 19th, JLOSH volunteers prepared 250 Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in East Orange.
Hurricane Relief Drive (9/2011)
In a partnership effort with Family Intervention Services, we conducted a toiletry and grocery gift card drive to help some of the families who were severely affected by flooding and other storm-related damage from Hurricane Irene. Donations included personal care items such as bath soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors and deodorant (travel or full size), and grocery gift cards these families.
Aging Out Fair (7/2011)
JLOSH and the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc. (JLMN) hosted an annual Information Fair for 150 teens in foster care who are about to age out of the system.
Sierra House (4/2011)
11 S. Maple Avenue, East Orange, NJ
JLOSH members renovated six bedrooms, hung donated artwork throughout the house, restocked the kitchen pantry and secured a donation of window treatments for the entire house.
Sort and Transport Books for the East Orange Public Library (04/2011)
JLOSH members sorted and transported books collected at the book swap for the East Orange Public Library and an East Orange book pantry.
Health & Wellness Fair / Teddy Bear Clinc (04/2011)

JLOSH participated in a program is designed to introduce children and parents to doctor visits and healthy habits.

JLOSH members organized, prepped, cooked, delivered and served a hot meal for close to 100 people.

JLOSH members helped sort clothes, cleaned and organized the church's clothing closet that helps service residents of East Orange and surrounding communities.

Salvation Army, 430 Main St., East Orange JLOSH worked with the Salvation Army of East Orange to prepare more than 200 Thanksgiving baskets for local residents in need. Children were welcome to attend to make crafts for the baskets.

JLOSH collected items for Thanksgiving baskets at the League building through November 15th. Donations included instant mashed potatoes, canned yams, green beans, corn bread and cranberry sauce.

Mock Interviews for NJ SEEDS (10/14/10)
We joined forces with NJ SEEDS, which prepares academically talented, financially limited youth to apply to competitive secondary schools, often changing their lives. We conducted mock interviews at St. Phillip's Academy in Newark for their "Young Scholars," 22 Newark 5th- and 6th-graders applying to independent middle schools who need to practice for their interviews.
School Supply Drive (10/10)
We collected school supplies for area youth serviced by NJ SEEDS. Items collected included: Backpacks, Correction tape, Flash cards/index cards, Flash drives, Binders, Graphing calculators, Colored pencils, Erasers, Folders, Glue, Highlighters, Markers, Notebooks, Pencils, pencil sharpeners, Pens, Planners, Rulers, Loose leaf paper, Scissors, and Tape.
