The Littlest Volunteers is an award-winning story book and program created by the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills, to encourage children to get active in helping others. We initiated this program because studies show that exposure to volunteering at an early age can teach important life skills, improve confidence, promote healthy lifestyle choices and can lead to a life-long commitment to volunteering.
Since winning a Mom’s Choice Gold Award for Inspirational/Motivational Children’s picture books in 2009, The Littlest Volunteers has become part of grade 2 studies in the Millburn School District and has is forming the basis of teaching programs run by other Junior Leagues throughout the USA. Meanwhile, JLOSH members continue to introduce The Littlest Volunteers to children in our service area through readings and activities in schools and libraries.
A program of activities and teaching resources are on the supporting website, where you can buy copies. It is also available from Amazon.com. The book comes with an accompanying CD narrated by actress-singer Raven Symoné, and an
original song, ‘Come On and Volunteer!’
written by JLOSH member Danielle Speckhart.
Individuals or organizations who are interested in using The Littlest Volunteers as part of their curriculum, are asked to contact the JLOSH office, jlosh1913@gmail.com or phone 973-379-9655.
