Done in a Day (DIAD) events are a great way in which we supplement the work we do in our community - and achieve high impact results in the space of just one day. They are very rewarding and a lot of fun, and we usually get our family and friends to join in too!
The Done in a Day Committee develops hands-on volunteering opportunities for our members to share in helping our communities. They generally provide service opportunities outside the scope of our other projects.
Over the years, Junior League members have come together to serve the neediest children and families in our service area through the refurbishment of schools, libraries and day care facilities, assistance with soup kitchens and community food banks, and collection of school supplies, holiday gifts, baby care products and food for Thanksgiving baskets.
Examples of past events:
- Sort used eyeglasses for needy individuals New Eyes for the Needy, Short Hills
- Participate in mock interview session for high-achieving, low-income students
- Assemble food baskets for East Orange Health Department families in need
- Replenish DYFS foster children’s supply closet at Maplewood DYFS offices
In conjunction with AJLI’s Kids in the Kitchen national campaign to teach children about nutrition and healthy lifestyles, JLOSH partnered with local community organizations, chefs, nutritionists and fitness instructors, to organize free and fun events such as fitness sessions, cookery demonstrations and tastings of delicious healthy snacks, to encourage children and their families to get into the healthy eating and exercise habit.
