Community Grants

community_grantsOverview of the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills’ (JLOSH) Community Grants Process

We are currently accepting applications for our Community Grants program for 2016 – 2017. JLOSH Community Grants are intended to support organizations that improve the lives of children aged PreK through 8th grade in the communities we serve: East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Orange, Short Hills, South Orange, Springfield and West Orange.

This coming year, we will be awarding several grants for projects, ranging in size from $1,000 to $5000. These grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations whose programs further JLOSH’s new “Fill the Need Initiative”. This initiative focuses on addressing the basic needs of low-income children in our joint service area through community work dedicated to closing the gap on food insecurity, school supply gaps, essential clothing and basic hygiene needs of school-aged children (PreK – 8th grade) living in poverty. We believe that when these basic needs are met, together we can help low-income children focus their energy on succeeding in school and building a more secure future. Grants will be awarded only to “Fill the Need Initiative” programs that target the communities in JLOSH’s service area which includes East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Orange, Short Hills, South Orange, Springfield and West Orange.

The Application Process

We will start accepting applications on Friday, October 14, 2016. To apply, you must submit your completed application and all requested supporting materials by December 16, 2016. Applications must be complete at the time of submission.

Note that applicants may be contacted by members of the Grant Evaluation Committee or asked to attend a meeting of that committee to present additional details regarding their proposal.

We anticipate reviewing all materials and contacting applicants for site visits by March of 2017. We plan to award the grants in Spring 2017.

We encourage you to submit your application via our online process but should you require a hard copy application please contact us (see contact information).
